What it does

Scan it, read it, find it later.

Five things, done properly, with nothing held back behind a plan.

  • Scan or upload

Photograph a page and the edges are found and straightened for you — or bring in images and PDFs you already have.

  • Read the text

Five scripts are read on the phone itself, with no page leaving the device. The rest are read on the server.

  • Search everything

Full-text search runs across every page you have ever scanned — the words inside them, not just their titles.

  • Keep it organised

Folders, renaming, downloading and deleting, so a year of scanning stays something you can navigate.

  • Light or dark

A dark theme that follows your phone, or stays exactly where you put it.

Languages

68 languages, written the way they are written.

Most scanners handle the Latin alphabet and give up. ScanCortex reads scripts that usually come back as nonsense — here are a few of them.

  • ΕλληνικάGreek
  • ქართულიGeorgian
  • РусскийRussian
  • العربيةArabic
  • עבריתHebrew
  • हिन्दीHindi
  • ไทยThai
  • 中文Chinese
  • 日本語Japanese
  • 한국어Korean
  • Tiếng ViệtVietnamese

Plainly

What it costs, and where your pages go.

Free, with no limit

No plans, no payments, no scan quota. Server reading is speed-limited to keep the bill down, but ordinary scanning never meets it. Ads pay for the rest, which is why you will see one now and then.

Some pages are read elsewhere

Latin, Chinese, Devanagari, Japanese and Korean are read on your phone. Other languages are read on the server, and some pages are passed to an outside reading service to be turned into text.

The details

What is collected, and where it goes, is set out in the privacy policy.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no sign-in. Your documents live on your phone, and nothing is kept on our side after a page has been read.

Where did my documents go?

They are stored on the device itself, so deleting the app deletes them. Export anything you want to keep before you remove it.

A page came back as nonsense.

Pick the language before scanning rather than leaving it automatic — a script the reader is not expecting is the usual cause. If it still fails, email the page and the language you chose.
